Paul Mero is on the vanguard of promoting public policies that will bring about positive change for the citizens of Utah. He is a voice that fights for his fellow Utahns’ right to lasting, relevant and workable solutions that safeguard the principles of freedom and prosperity while serving the common good and protecting good moral values. And as he is speaking up, more and more people are taking notice and are becoming one with him in promoting a culture which values faith, family and morality.

Mero is not afraid of taking on the challenge to push for change in controversial issues such as family, limited government, education and immigration. He is encouraging fellow Utahns to exercise their God-given liberties in an effort to shape the laws and policies in Utah. And Mero is spearheading the efforts of Sutherland Institute towards this end. Sutherland Institute is a Utah-based non-partisan and not-for-profit think tank that provides key research studies to law makers, public figures and private citizens. Paul Mero has served as the institute’s president since 2000.

Paul Mero started his career in public service after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy at Brigham Young University. He served as a member of the Congressional staff from 1987 to 1997. First, he served as Press Secretary to Congressman William E. Dannemeyer. He then served as counselor (1994) and later chief of staff (1995) to Congressman Robert K. Dornan. Both congressmen are known to be staunch conservatives.

From 1998 to 2000, Paul Mero moved on to become the Executive Vice President of The Howard Center for Family, Religion and Society, which is based in Rockford, Illinois. While in this position, he was instrumental in the successful 2nd World Congress of Families that was held in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1999. During his time at the Howard Center, Mero also co-wrote a book with Allan Carlson, president of the Howard Center, titled The Natural Family: A Manifesto. This influential book centered on the “natural family” and how it is fundamental to society.

In the year 2000, Mero decided to go back to Utah to serve as the president of Sutherland Institute and has held this position ever since. As president of Sutherland Institute, Mero has been highly visible in speaking about the citizens’ personal responsibility towards the community and how they can work together to make Utah a better world for all, especially for her future citizens.

Paul Mero is also known for his opinions about illegal immigration and the need to provide opportunities for them to stay and work given certain conditions. Mero also does the “Mero Moments” radio spots and is also active on the Sutherland Daily blog at the Sutherland Institute website. Aside from The Natural Family: A Manifesto, Mero has authored several books and publications. Mero currently resides at Sandy, Utah, with his wife. Paul Mero: Fighting For Positive Change in Utah

Tags: ,

Paul Mero is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to influencing public policy and bringing about a better world for the people of his home state, Utah. As president of Sutherland Institute in Salt Lake City, Paul Mero leads the way to change by giving Utahns the information they need to make to safeguard and ensure that public policy is based on upstanding moral values.

Family, a limited government and the protection of religious liberty are issues that Paul Mero hold dear. He works to promote these by espousing responsible citizenship. By encouraging citizens to get involved, Mero believes that there will be positive change: a community that helps each other (even with limited government involvement) and protects what is good and right for the state of Utah.

Activist, Writer and Public Policy Reformer

As a conservative activist, Paul Mero leads the way to make sure that public policy is grounded on upstanding moral values. Prior to joining Sutherland Institute in the year 2000, Mero built his experience and reputation in the area of public policy. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Major in Public Policy from Brigham Young University, Mero served as a member of the congressional staff. First, he was the Press Secretary for Congressman William Dannemeyer. And when the latter’s term expired, Mero worked as counselor and later, chief of staff to Congressman Robert Dornan.

After 10 years in Washington DC, Mero moved on to be the executive vice president of the Howard Center for Family, Religion, and Society, which is based in Rockford, Illinois. He held this position from 1998 to 2000. It was during this time that he co-wrote and published the seminal book, The Natural Family: A Manifesto, together with then-Howard Center president Dr. Allan Carlson. The book is really what Mero’s work is centered on – the value of the traditional family as the fundamental unit in society. It promotes the traditional family unit as well as family-based tax breaks and a deeper parental involvement in a child’s education.

Today, Paul Mero spearheads initiatives for Sutherland Institute, where he started holding the position of president in the year 2000. Sutherland Institute is a Salt Lake City, Utah-based think tank that was founded by philanthropist Gaylord K. Swim. It is a non-profit organization that provides research studies and information to help elected officials make informed choices and for private citizens to know how to make their voices be heard. Mero has been instrumental in increasing awareness of the organization, not just in the state level, but in the national arena as well.

Paul Mero also uses his public relations savvy to influence public policy reform. His voice can be heard in the “Mero Moments” radio show and he also writes regular blog posts for the Sutherland Daily blog. He is also very vocal in his opinions about the treatment of illegal immigrants in Utah and how they should be given an opportunity to stay and work in Utah.

Mero currently lives in Sandy, Utah, with his wife. He has six children, and enjoys being a grandfather to his (to date) seven grandchildren.

As current president of Sutherland Institute, Paul T. Mero is and has been at the forefront in advocating upstanding moral values. Indeed, he is not afraid to take on controversial issues related to the American family, immigration, limited government and education.

Sutherland Institute

Sutherland Institute is a non-profit organization that is committed toward providing studies that will help lawmakers and the general public to obtain information that will help in forming informed opinions and decisions. It is geared towards initiatives and research studies that promote family, education and values in the realm of public policy. Paul Mero’s Background

Paul Mero graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in public policy at Brigham Young University. After graduation, he earned his spurs as a member of the staff of two conservative congressmen.  He started as the press secretary to Congressman William E. Dannemeyer up until the end of the latter’s term. Then, he served as counselor and chief of staff to Congressman Rob K. Dornan. The 10 years he spent in the United States Congress helped him develop his expertise in public policy.

Mero then worked as executive vice president of the Howard Center for Family, Religion and Society, a non-profit conservative organization based in Rockford, Illinois. Together with Allan C. Carlson, he co-wrote and published The Natural Family: A Manifesto, a nonfiction book espousing a pro-family worldview, a parent’s right to be involved in his child’s education, and family-based tax breaks.

It was in the year 2000 that Mero moved back to Utah to hold the reins as president of Sutherland Institute. Since then, Mero has used knowledge and experience in public policy and conservative activism as well as speech and public relations to drive the organization into the public’s attention and has made it play an active part in the public policy formation in the state.

Although Mero sees himself as an activist with a traditional and conservative stance, he has also held some progressive views, particularly in the area of immigration. Mero leads Sutherland Institute into being an active presence in the state’s debate regarding illegal immigration. This has resulted in better opportunities for law-abiding illegal immigrants to obtain official documents through the guest-worker program.

Mero and his wife are currently based in Sandy, Utah. He is a father to six children and dotes on his seven grandchildren.
