Paul Mero: Promoter and Defender of Family, Faith and Freedom
Family, faith and freedom – this is what Paul Mero holds dear and what he has actively defended in terms of forming and influencing public policy and laws that will affect the citizens of Utah.
Paul Mero is a staunch conservative activist whose voice is getting heard and who is getting noticed not just in the state level but also nationwide. Mero brings to bear his years of experience in public policy, as well as his formidable skills in public speaking and relations to champion laws and policies that uphold good moral values, the value of the family and a citizen’s right and responsibilities as a free man.
Background and Career
Mero graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy from Brigham Young University. Since then, he has dedicated his efforts towards influencing public policy.
First, he served in Washington DC as part of the Congressional staff of two known conservative congressmen. He first worked under Congressman William Dannemeyer as a press secretary in 1987. After the congressman’s term ended, he served as counselor, and later as chief of staff under Congressman Robert Dornan, beginning in 1994.
After 10 years in Congress, he moved on to another arena. In 1998, he accepted the position of Executive Vice President of the Howard Center for Families, Religion, and Society, an Illinois-based think tank that espoused the importance of the family’s role in society. This is where he teamed up with Howard Center president Allan Carlson to write the seminal book The Natural Family: A Manifesto. This book has attracted a lot of attention due to the principles it espouses. In addition, during his time at the Howard Center, Mero also worked to organize the 2nd World Congress of Families.
In 2000, he moved back to Utah to serve as the president of Sutherland Institute, a non-profit, non-partisan think tank that is based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Sutherland Institute provides vital research studies and information and works with citizens to exercise responsible citizenship in influencing public policy for the greater good of the state.
Since then, he has spoken to various forums and written a number of publications and books on the subject. He is also well-known for his war against the bid to tighten the reins against illegal immigrants who are otherwise hard working and law abiding.
Mero does a weekly radio spot called the “Mero Moment.” He currently resides in Sandy, Utah. He and his wife have six children and seven grandchildren.
